Bug Fixes

14/05/2012 23:16 Written by P.Sgt.Levers

Dear Passengers and Crew,

Most of you were receiving an error when you logged out of the chat which we appreciate was a bit of a pain. This has been fixed.

Some of you were also complaining of an excessive amount of popups appearing whilst browsing the community pages. The amount that showed when changing pages was a bug and should never have appeared so many times. Some changes have been made to lessen the amount of popups.

We're continuing to strive to make the chat better and fix any problems. If you have any further problems please contact a navigator.

Kind Regards,

ChatTeam

Adult Rooms.... Adult Chat?

30/04/2012 16:30 Written by P.Sgt.Levers

Dear Passengers,

After much discussion we have decided to slightly amend the rules of the Adult rooms to ensure a good chatting experience for everyone.

There used to be three decks on the lift that were, by large, for adults. This meant that chatters trying to work out the rules in each of these decks was quite impossible. Recently however we reduced the amount of decks we have in the lift and now simply have the Adult Deck which houses the adult rooms.

By it's very name, every room on this deck is limited to aged 16 and above, or aged 18 and above. The only users that can access these rooms are those that have confirmed their date of birth when signing up to the chat, therefore the risk of younger chatters entering is next to none. That being the case, the rules across all rooms on the Adult Deck are being relaxed.

The internet is a busy and lively place and whilst the chat prides itself on being suitable for chatters above the age of 10 with supervision, we also need to make sure we are catering for the needs of the majority of our users, adults.

From now on the guidelines for the adult rooms are as follows:

- Moderate swearing is acceptable.
- Adult themed chat and inuendos are acceptable.
- Very explicit adult chat is not permitted unless between consenting adults in private message (or private cabins).
- Persistent and prolonged explicit requests will not be allowed.
- Abusive, racist, homophobic, bullying, strong swearing or anything illegal will still of course, not be accepted.

The chat has automated systems to detect any inappropriate activity and these methods work very well to catch anything extreme or illegal, please be very much assured that this work and detection will not stop or be relaxed.

The pure basis for this relaxation is to allow the adult rooms to be just that, for adults, to be treated like adults. We know adults swear, and we know adults use dirty chat.... if you want to do this, go to an adult room. Any other room on the ship will have the normal rules applied so that all chat and conversation is suitable for young chatters too. Adult themed chat in any room but an adult room will be dealt with robustly.

We hope you enjoy the relaxed rules.

Regards,

ChatTeam

Don't panic, we're on it!

20/04/2012 20:49 Written by P.Sgt.Levers

Dear Passengers and Crew,

Some of you may have noticed that when the chat radio pops up when signing into the chat, your anti virus software kicks in and tries to remove content it believes to be suspicious.

We are working hard to try and get the issue resolved, which we believe to be a specific advert inside the chat radio.

At this time we do NOT believe this to be harmful to your computer, more your anti-virus systems taking added precautions to protect you.

We will update you further as soon as we have a result.

Kind Regards,

ChatTeam

The Fan Sites page of the chat has just been updated to include more recent fan sites and help areas.

If you haven't seen it for a while, you'll find the link to book cyber ceremonies, shrink down your images to fit within the chat limits and also a site which has a bank of custom cabin designs if you have the relevant premium feature.

Head over to Fan Sites in the community pages to take a look.

The Chief Navigator Team

What is a Navigator?

Navigators are chatters who volunteer to spend a lot of time helping out and keeping order on the chat.

The ideal Navigator knows every little secret on the Chat, he or she is extremely patient, both when helping out newbies and when dealing with occasional trouble.

Only very experienced chatters become Navigators, so if you feel like helping others and want to help make the chat a nice place for everyone, it could be just the challenge for you.

How to become a Navigator

Would you like to be a Chat Navigator?

Before answering this question there are some things you should know.

Being a Navigator is not an easy role to fulfil. It is demanding, takes hard work and dedication and a lot of online time.

  1. As a navigator you're an ambassador for the Chat. This means that chatters watch everything you say and do. Behave inappropriately, and it gives all Navigators a bad name. Being helpful at all times when on and off watch, shows what a great team we are.
  2. Navigators are the first people new chatters meet and their most important task is to make sure that these newbies have a good experience the first time they are on board.
  3. Some chatters will see it as their job to try to wind you up. If they succeed, they win. If they don't, everyone wins :) Therefore you have to be helpful and patient when people ask you a question. As a Navigator your behaviour should be spotless on the chat at all times.

If you are the kind of person who gets emotional easily, then being a navigator may not be for you. You must be objective always; NEVER taking sides, even when your friends are involved, and always play devils advocate. Never make assumptions.
You must be able to keep confidences, both chatters and other Navigators may come to you with problems. And you will also be the first to find out about new things too ? you must be able to keep these things close to your chest! Having the patience of a saint too is necessary! Some chatters take a while to help, and you need to ensure that your personality can cope with these demanding times.

You should also ask yourself, Am I a team player? This is a very important question as the Navigator system can only work with a team spirit. All ranks working together for a common goal.

All this said, being a navigator is very rewarding. Just ask any of our existing Navigators and they will tell you that nothing beats the feeling of when you help a chatter or solve a dispute and receive a huge Thank you.
So, still interested? Then you also need to meet the following criteria.
  1. You must have been a chatter for at least 6 months.
  2. You must have a minimum chat rank of Midshipman.
  3. You must have a clear chat record, with no serious bans/behaviour issues in the last 6 months.
  4. You must also have completed the 5 standard chat quests. /sing, /shout, /whisper, /sleep, /love

If you meet the criteria above, there is still one more thing to do. To become a Navigator you have to pass the Navigator Exam.

If you would like to be a navigator, and do not qualify yet, then take this time to get to know everything there is to know about the chat. The more you know, the more you'll be able to help others.

So, join the Navigator Team and help make Chat the fun and friendly place you want it to be! Keep an eye on the bridge for opportunities to register for the exam!
